Backup & Data Responsibility Policy
Effective Date: 10 May 2025
This policy explains how backups work at GenShift and what customers should expect and understand. It is written in clear, simple language to avoid confusion. The short version is direct: your data matters, but protecting it is your responsibility first.
By using GenShift services, you agree to the terms below.
1. Your Data, Your Responsibility
All data stored on your hosting account belongs to you. This includes files, databases, emails, applications, and backups.
- You are responsible for keeping copies of your data
- GenShift does not control what you upload, modify, or delete
- If data is lost due to mistakes, hacking, misconfiguration, or software issues, GenShift is not automatically responsible
Think of GenShift as an infrastructure provider, not a personal data manager.
2. How Backups Work
GenShift may provide backups as a safety feature, but backups are not guaranteed.
- Backups are not real-time
- Schedules and retention may change without notice
- Backups may fail, be delayed, or be incomplete
Backups are offered as a convenience, not as a service guarantee.
3. Always Keep Your Own Backups
We strongly recommend that you:
- Download backups regularly
- Store backups outside your hosting account
- Test backups periodically to ensure they work
Relying only on hosting backups is risky and not advised.
4. Backup Restore Requests
If a backup is available and you request a restore:
- Restores are performed on a best-effort basis
- Restore time is not guaranteed
- Partial restores may occur
GenShift may refuse a restore request if it risks system stability or security.
5. Suspension, Termination & Backups
If your service is suspended or terminated, backup access depends on the situation:
- For normal issues (spam complaints, copyright notices), backups may be provided if available
- For serious violations (scams, phishing, fraud, malware), backups may not be provided
- Data linked to illegal or high-risk activity may be permanently removed
Backup availability is not guaranteed after suspension or termination.
6. No Liability for Data Loss
GenShift is not responsible for:
- Lost files or databases
- Corrupted or damaged data
- Business loss caused by missing or unusable data
Even if backups exist, data recovery cannot be guaranteed.
7. Best Practices for Customers
To reduce risk and avoid problems:
- Maintain regular off-site backups
- Secure your website and passwords
- Keep software, themes, and plugins updated
- Monitor account activity for unusual behavior
These practices protect your data far better than any policy.
8. Policy Updates
This policy may be updated at any time. Continued use of GenShift services means you accept the latest version.
It is your responsibility to review this policy periodically.
Your data is valuable.
Protect it accordingly.
